Class Introduction

This class is designed to bring both mind and body into an optimum state of health. It will complement the care that you are being given by The Norwich Natural Fertility Partnership, whether you are receiving fertility support or being treated for another gynaecological issue. It is also suitable for women without specific gynaecological problems but who find that regular yoga helps manage common female complaints like painful periods and PMS symptoms.

The class lasts for 60 minutes and is held at The Complementary Health Care Clinic in Norwich. Classes run on Tuesday evenings at 7.15pm. The classes are structured as a series of four classes that you enjoy over a four week period, one a week. The full cost is £30 payable in advance. The feedback from the classes is overwhelmingly positive, our clients say they feel progressively calmer each week and notice their ability to manage stressful situations improving with less feelings of frustration and irritation generally. Physically our clients report an tremendous reduction in menstrual cramping and peri-ovulatory discomfort and a general sense of the hips being ‘looser’.

It is necessary to first book your place in the class by contacting Maggie, the teacher, directly. Please call: 07948 381660 or email: [email protected]. For further information do visit our website: www.yoganorwich.co.uk.  Also do get in touch if you have any questions at all about the class.

Why yoga can help

Yoga has been in existence for around five thousand years. So it definitely works! It was originally practised by the monks in India so that their bodies would be healthy and strong enough to sit in meditation for hours at a time. Also the yoga was designed to calm and settle their minds so that they would be in a receptive state for meditation. We can enjoy the same benefits of yoga today.

The postures that we practise during a yoga class energise the whole body, our organs, muscles and joints. All of our systems are also boosted including circulatory, lymphatic and hormonal. Our nervous system becomes stronger too.

How this yoga class can help

In our Yoga for Women’s Health class we focus on stimulating the circulation to the pelvic area, increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs, keeping the whole region healthy.

The deep relaxation at the end of a yoga class heals and balances the body. Energy is allowed to flow freely as all stress has been removed by the practice.

The yoga postures, breath awareness, meditation, and relaxation, all quieten the mind. Yoga is practised mindfully. This means that we focus on the here and now, bringing ourselves into the present moment. This helps to calm us and slows down the ‘monkey mind’ which jumps from the past to the future and rapidly from one thought to the next. Essentially we give the mind a little ‘holiday’!

This calming effect is so necessary now as life can become so frenetic and we can feel overwhelmed by all of the demand upon us. The stress this causes impacts negatively on all of the systems of the body, including hormonal. The relaxation experienced from a yoga practice is effective and unique. It helps to reduce stress levels in the body bringing all of the functions and systems back into harmony. With continued practice we develop a sense of inner peace and strength that stays with us on our journey.
