< Previous Postnatal Pilates for new mums!

Many of our clients ask us what exercises are safe following childbirth and we tend to recommend Pilates. Postnatal Pilates is particularly beneficial as it addresses the inevitable pressures placed on your posture, abdominal and core muscles during pregnancy and childbirth itself. New mums then have to adapt to all the lifting, carrying and feeding of a new baby. Postnatal Pilates targets all these issues- by focussing on maintaining a tall posture and strengthening the postural muscles, you can hold correct spinal alignment with ease and thus prevent the some of the common injuries post pregnancy.

The course is taught by Hanna Dabbour, a qualified physiotherapist specialising in Women’s Health who has taught yoga and pilates for the past 6 years. You can bring baby with you to class – we have a very relaxed atmosphere and are situated in Norwich city centre! Ideally baby will be between 6 weeks – 9 months (pre-crawling) if you bring them with you.

You can attend the class after both vaginal deliveries and c-sections – but you will need to let Hanna know at the start of the class if you have had surgery or any postnatal complications so she can adjust certain exercises for you accordingly. You can attend within 6 weeks of a vaginal delivery or within 10 weeks after a c-section.

Hanna has found that her previous post natal clients choose Pilates for the following benefits:

  • helps maintain and improve the condition of abdominal muscles
  • strengthens pelvic floor muscles help with bladder control
  • relieves strain on joints and helps ease SI joint Pain/dysfunction / pubic girdle pain /pubic symphysis
  • builds key muscles for rapid recovery
  • increases energy  and decreases anxiety
  • improves sleep
  • reduces backache and improves circulation
The exercises are tailored to your individual needs, based on a Physiotherapy assessment that is done on the first day of the course and on what you wish to achieve out of the sessions. It will also include a booklet with tailored exercises to do at home to suit your postnatal needs.

Places on each course are limited in number (only 8 places) – due to the specialisation of the course the cost is £80 for 6 weeks. Extra one to one sessions are £60 and includes a full Physiotherapist assessment.
