< Previous Acupuncture and Endometriosis

Our acupuncturist Kate tells us her favourite acupuncture points for managing endometriosis:

A diagnosis in western medicine of endometriosis can present as several different patterns in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) - and so the acupuncture points chosen will vary woman to woman. That said there are a few firm favourites I find myself using..

Stomach 28 Shuidao

Seen on the large abdominal picture here on the bottom right - 'ST28'. A great local point for pain!

Liver 3 Tai Chong

Between the first and second toes on each foot. It's not a point anyone is likely to forget! Yes it's often very tender and needling this can make the foot feel achy and heavy.

Spleen 10 Xuehai

Above the knee either side. Acupuncturists use this point to invigorate the blood in the reproductive system.

Stomach 40 Fenglong

On the shin and we use this when someone has 'phelgm or damp' in their diagnosis. Sounds strange I agree but this is just a way of expressing the heavy sticky nature of endometriosis.

Others include:

San Jiao 5:
On the forearms and not a point traditionally associated with endometriosis. However I find when combined with the Liver 3 points on the feet and Sp 10 is a really effective way to help pain.

Du 4:
A lovely warming point - I use with the heat lamps behind when there is a diagnosis of cold and damp.

Acupuncture is used alongside other interventions here at NNFP to help manage the symptoms of endometriosis. Many of our patients are not looking to get pregnant but to address the high levels of pain they are in.

If you would like to try acupuncture you can book an appointment in online via Kate's website.
